Historic Milestones: One Destiny hits 1,000!
On Friday, June 10, 2016, our one-act play One Destiny celebrates an incredible milestone: 1,000 performances! This two-character story, which premiered in spring 2007 at Ford’s, is set at Ford’s Theatre itself shortly after the Lincoln assassination.
One Destiny revisits the events of April 14, 1865, from the point of view of Harry Ford, one of three brothers who owned Ford’s Theatre, and the great comic actor Harry Hawk, who performed on stage on the night of the Lincoln assassination. Together, the two recollect the events of the day and ponder if they could have stopped John Wilkes Booth before he acted to assassinate President Lincoln.
Michael Bunce and Stephen F. Schmidt have performed the many characters (five or more roles each!) in One Destiny since its beginnings. Though most of those performances have taken place at Ford’s, Bunce and Schmidt have taken the show to schools, outdoors, and even to the East Room of the White House!
