After President Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth at Ford’s Theatre, the president was carried across the street to the Petersen House. A vigil was kept at Lincoln’s side overnight, as he was visited by doctors, family and some of the most important figures of the Lincoln administration.
