Summer in the City: Teachers-in-Residence Share their Expertise
Summertime with Ford’s Education means welcoming our new Teachers-in-Residence. For Summer 2016, we have the good fortune of working with not one, but two incredible educators!
This year’s powerful duo will help us better understand teachers’ needs and steer us toward developing and implementing more useful resources and programs. One will focus on Ford’s Theatre digital content, and another on our teacher programs. They’ll help us address two major questions: What do teachers want most from Ford’s Education? How can we ensure our programs cater to what is wanted and needed?
Focusing on programs is Dave McIntire, a seventh and eighth grade history teacher at The Independent School in Wichita, Kan. Dave is a Master Fellow with our National Oratory Fellows program and a Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation Civil War Washington Teacher Fellow.
As Programs Teacher-in-Residence, Dave will offer support during our summer teacher institutes, work with our Digital Teacher-in-Residence to develop our digital resources for teachers and help us plan programming for the coming school year.
Our Digital Teacher-in-Residence is Krista McKim. Krista is a seventh and eighth grade English Language Arts teacher with Alternative Programs, Montgomery County Schools in Maryland.
Krista is a Veteran Fellow with the National Oratory Fellows program and is a Civil War Washington Teacher Fellow. As the Digital Content Teacher-in-Residence, Krista will develop classroom lesson plans based on what our teachers learned in our intensive National Oratory Fellows program this past school year. She will also help us figure out better ways to distribute the many resources we’ve created for teachers and students.
“I am so excited to help get Ford’s resources into the hands of teachers and help make the website teacher friendly,” Krista explains.
At this point, you might be wondering, how did Dave and Krista land such incredible summertime gigs? The answer is, in addition to being incredible educators dedicated to ensuring that their students receive the best education possible, both are highly engaged teachers with Ford’s education programs throughout the school year.
Our Teacher-in-Residence program has a competitive application process, open to teachers who work with Ford’s intensely throughout the school year in our oratory or history-focused programs. The residency offers a window into the inner-workings of our programming, the opportunity to shape some of what we do and a stipend to boot!
